in the line of fire, 2020 - ongoing

There is something both haunting and beautiful about Thursley Common as it rises from the ashes after a wildfire in May 2020 - the hottest and driest month on record in the UK.  The charcoal fire-sculptures and the blackened earth speak of past trauma and the future of our natural environment at the same time. Conceived during the summer of the first lockdown on one of my daily walks and shot on 120mm black and white film, In the Line of Fire is an ongoing series documenting the aftermath of a heathland fire local to my home, where wildfires are becoming increasingly common as our summers get hotter.
